WHAT IS GROUND SEARCH AND RESCUE (GSAR)?

 

The LaSalle County Ground Search and Rescue Team is a group of trained volunteers that assist local and state emergency response agencies in the search for missing or lost persons in all weather and terrain types.
They’re on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.


They respond to requests from any emergency service, fire, or police agency.


The team is trained to conduct both day and night time searches for both persons and evidence, however do not search for subjects who are considered armed and/or dangerous without law enforcement personnel.


WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE A MEMBER OF THE LASALLE COUNTY GROUND SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM?
 

All members are required to complete training in:

  • Ground Search and Rescue Operations

  • Incident Command

  • National Incident Management System

  • National Response Framework

  • Additional conditions for team membership:

  • Complete a background check

  • Be physically capable of conducting long term search operations

  • Attend the required team training sessions
